Coltrane

Coltrane is named after John Coltrane, one of my personal heroes. Coltrane is the most friendly, loving cat I've ever been around...pick him up and he'll throw his paws around your neck and give you a hug.

Coltrane was the "WJR Cat of the Week" when I got him from the Michigan Humane Society in Detroit. Although he's pretty sedate most of the time, he's the one that causes the most damage when he gets out of control. His companion, Whitman only injures Dad when he gets out of hand...Coltrane is the silent but deadly type who bashes a lamp across the room and then looks at you like nothing happened. Unfortunately, he sometimes causes the damage to himself.

Coltrane once made a bonsai leap for his brother. He missed. What he did get was a trip to the vet to treat the nasty abscess that developed as a result of the collision between a table lamp and his face. He survived. The lamp did not.

More recently, Coltrane gulped down a foot long piece of thread, which required emergency surgery to remove. It was the only time I've ever seen him pissed off. The huge incision on his tummy kind of made him look like he'd been dissected. The fur has grown back now, and he's happy again.
