Sample of World Wide Web Projects Below is a list of some of the World Wide Web projects that I have managed or implemented completely:
Large site content architecture and large scale site management:
I am responsible for the management of the Michigan Engineering main Web site, including supervision of all content published by the College administration, and for navigation and searching systems to the over 100,000 documents in the College web environment. Among the subsites I managed are those for alumni relations, development, research marketing, course information, and student affairs. I also designed the overall information architecture for the new Michigan Engineering web site, which will be unveiled during the summer of 1998. This site will be a good example of my "building block" approach to constructing sites that provide an intuitive navigation, with emphasis on interrelated links among key sources of information.
Site design focused at a smaller target audience: The Center for Professional Development is the continuing education and distance learning division of Michigan Engineering. I supervised the design and deployment of CPD's web site, and consulted with CPD on other on-line projects, such as delivering content over streaming video and interactive teleconferencing.
Large web-based transaction system implementation and support: The Engineering Career Resource Center moved most of its direct services to the Web in September 1997, including student resumes, interview scheduling, and corporate job postings. I was responsible for purchase, installation, configuration, and initial technical support for this system that currently supports over 1000 students and hundreds of employers. It is a good example of my work in implementing and supporting a large transaction system on the Web.
Facilitation and strategic planning: I launched this Web site in 1995, and helped the Center create a strategy for using the Web to deliver and deploy simulation software to industrial partners. This site now represents a good example of my facilitation and strategic planning skills with faculty and researchers.
Non-linear writing for the web and communicating with links: Bad Music, my personal web site was featured in the chapter on Labeling Systems in Information Architecture for the World Wide Web (O'Reilly, 1998) and is a featured Personal Web site on Comoflow. This site is a demonstration of my approach to "talking with links" - non-linear writing that uses links among different sites to express relationships in a way that communicates more meaning than the words.
