Organize evaluation practices and provide management support for this
University-wide initiative to create online courses and degree programs. Specific responsibilities and accomplishments:
Coordinator, World Wide Web Services - 1996-1998
University of Michigan College of Engineering
Coordinate content development, management, and support services for the
College's World Wide Web environment. Specific responsibilities and
accomplishments:
- Manage numerous Web sites for the College. Supervise writing,
editing, information architecture, programming, and visual design. A
sample of Web projects is available.
- Chaired a faculty committee which planned the future of WWW at
Michigan Engineering (appointed by the Dean of the College).
- Lead projects to migrate a number of critical information sources to
an on-line environment, including the College's course catalog, faculty
directory, career services, and alumni relations.
- Consult and advise faculty and units for management, design, and
implementation of WWW resources for on-line teaching, research, and
administrative resources.
Senior Research Associate - 1992-1996
Office of Technology Transfer (OTT), University of Michigan College of Engineering
Managed the Office's activities in electronic collaboration. Used the
Internet, teleconferencing and other interactive media to build
relationships with the College's external partners. Specific
responsibilities and accomplishments:
- Developed World Wide Web sites for collaborative research centers
and other college programs.
- Constructed and managed a "teleinteraction"; facility, which
provided interactive teleconferencing to researchers.
- Managed technical support staff for the department's computing
environment.
- Built partnerships with external organizations for economic
development and technology transfer projects. Liaison with state
government, non-profit organizations, and private corporations.
Significant accomplishments of these partnerships include the
recruitment of corporate headquarters facilities for Borders, Inc. and
Sony Electronic Publishing to Ann Arbor, and formation of the Michigan
Internet Council.
- Served as a member of the department's management team. Authored the
OTT Strategic Plan, and led a team that created a new objective
personnel evaluation process, which was eventually adopted throughout
the College.
- Recognized for substantial contributions to the economic development
profession by the Michigan Economic Developers Association in 1995.
Research Associate - 1988-92
Industrial Development Division, University of Michigan
Provided management support of the department's economic development
programs. Specific accomplishments:
- Managed the Michigan Economic
Development Practitioners Training Program. Recruited speakers,
prepared course materials and marketing information, and moderated five
sessions per year.
- Programming, support and consulting for the Michigan Computer Aided
Economic Development Program, which introduced microcomputers to all of
Michigan's local economic development professionals. Activities
included presentation of training sessions, technical support and field
visits to over 50 offices throughout the state.
- Designed and managed the Michigan Community Economic Profile
Database
, a large, relational database of local unit economic
development information for all of Michigan's 83 counties.
- Primary author of a study of business climate concerns of foreign
firms doing business in Michigan (commissioned by the state government).

Michigan Internet Council
The Michigan Internet Council is a group of Michigan businesses and
organizations whose primary focus is the Internet. Successfully
recruited participants for the new organization, chaired focus groups to
investigate specific needs, moderated membership meetings, and served as
liaison with other profit and non-profit organizations.
Co-Founder and Director - 1989-1994
Mid-American Global Education Council (MAGEC), Inc., Ann Arbor, MI
Served as part of a volunteer management team that founded this
non-profit corporation in 1990. MAGEC sponsors simulation conferences of
international organizations for high school students from the Midwest.
Successfully managed application for 501(c)(3) status from the Internal
Revenue Service. Responsible for staff recruitment, training, and
supervision, marketing, issues research, and negotiation with vendors.
